Project Description: The Predator is an American remotely piloted aircraft (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)) built by General Atomics and used primarily by the United States Air Force (USAF) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The Predator carries cameras and other sensors but has been modified and upgraded to carry and fire two Hellfiremissiles or other munitions. The UAV has been in use since 1995 throughout the world and is in continue use today. The medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aircraft system, consists of four aircraft (UAS) with sensors, a ground control station (GCS), and a primary satellite link communication suite. After 2001, the Predator RQ1 was upgrade to MQ1 with a more powerful engine and longer flight time and various sensors and weapons systems were later upgraded.
The Predator has been used also in civilian uses like border enforcement and environmental studies, how and why the fires develop and how to counter them.
